What is a family photojournalism session?

Seriously, what do you mean when you say that?

I know the idea of a family photojournalism session is pretty new, so it can be confusing. I thought this would be a good time to explain just exactly what it is and show you an example of an actual session.

What does one of these sessions look like?
Simply put, it looks like your family just being your family. The goofiness, the laughing, the ornery children. I want to document it all.

What do we do?
Whatever you want to do, or whatever is important to your family. Do you make breakfast together every Saturday morning? Do you have a game night every Friday? Maybe you go for walks every evening after dinner. Or maybe your family loves hiking, biking, fishing, or swimming. The list can go on forever!

Is it really completely unposed?
Yes! The point of these sessions isn't for me to show you how I posed you and your family. These sessions are natural, relaxed, and free from photographer direction.

WHY would I want one of these sessions?
I totally understand the appeal of a traditional family session. You get to get dressed up, sit in a pretty field, and smile. Of course there are beautiful images that can be made during those sessions. Family photojournalistic sessions are just different than that. I'm not going to tell your daughter to smile, but I'm going to do my best to catch her with the biggest natural grin on her face. And I'm not going to tell your son to give you a hug, but I will try to document him when he comes to snuggle you while you're sitting on the couch. It's all about how you want to remember your family and, again, what is important to you!

Now here is a session that was completely unposed. I hope you love it as much as I do.
